Better preparedness at a lower cost
Located in Lofoten north of the Arctic Circle at 68°N, you will find the municipality of Vågan with just over 10,000 inhabitants. The municipality’s largest town, Svolvær, is the capital of Lofoten and a popular destination for the more than 300,000 tourists who visit the archipelago in Nordland every year.
The combination of an Arctic climate and its location on an island places high demands on the municipality’s emergency preparedness work. With limited resources, they also have to deal with a large number of visitors who have little or no experience of staying in an Arctic climate.
Like more than 70 other Norwegian municipalities, Vågan Municipality has chosen CIM as its tool for comprehensive emergency preparedness and incident management. This provides a double benefit:
‘When everything is gathered in one common system, there are fewer specialist systems for users to deal with, which means more effective emergency preparedness and lower costs for the municipality,’ says Lars Ottemo Gärtner, fire chief and emergency preparedness coordinator in Vågan municipality.
In this 15-minute video, Lars Ottemo Gärtner shows how Vågan municipality achieves better emergency preparedness at a lower cost by using CIM from F24 as its tool for comprehensive emergency preparedness and crisis management.
